YemenInvest – Rural Employment Programme

This programme is national in scope, but it will focus initially on seven governorates: Abyan, Al Baida, Dhamar, Hajjah, Hodeidah, Lahj and Taiz. Expansion to other governorates will be based on the business case and security considerations.

The programme's goal is to improve the economic status of some 220,000 poor rural women and men by creating sustainable and diversified employment opportunities.

In particular, the programme will invest in:

  • value chain upgrading
  • rural investment financing
  • rural labour market intermediation
  • policy and partnerships.

The programme is an integral part of IFAD's Yemen country programme under the 2010-2012 cycle, and is aligned with IFAD's Strategic Framework 2011-2015.
