Agricultural Research and Development Project

The aim of the project was to improve farmers’ productivity and income by strengthening the country’s agricultural research capacity and improving administration of previously scattered and uncoordinated research programmes. Through the project, IFAD funds supported:

  • establishment of viable research centres
  • procurement of research equipment, materials and supplies
  • technical assistance and training for local researchers

The project was responsible for planning, conducting and coordinating all applied research. It eliminated fragmentation and duplication of research by donors. The training and incentives provided by the project resulted in a fivefold increase in the number of qualified Yemeni scientists.
