Cotton Sub-sector Development Project

The project was an expansion of the Smallholders Cotton Rehabilitation Project and was designed to rehabilitate the cotton sub-sector throughout the country. Its objectives included:

  • restructuring the regulatory and policy framework for cotton pricing, processing and marketing, rehabilitating ginneries and improving cotton processing and handling
  • improving support services such as national research programmes and extension services
  • providing credit to farmers
