Magbosi Integrated Agricultural Development Project

This was the first project that IFAD financed in Sierra Leone. The objective of the project was to raise the standard of living of poor small-scale farmers and increase their incomes by increasing food production, particularly of rice, cassava and vegetables, and by encouraging land and water conservation and better utilization of land resources.

Activities included:

  • strengthening agricultural institutions, including markets
  • developing food crops
  • establishing marketing and processing centres
  • encouraging adoption of improved production technology through the supply of production inputs, including credit
  • expanding villagers’ clean water and health services
