Agricultural Revitalisation Project

The project builds on the experiences of the Rural Finance and Small Enterprises Development Project. Participants in the targeted villages include agricultural workers and their families, members of farmers’ organizations and entrepreneurs engaged in agro-services, agro-processing and marketing. The goals are to improve the quality and quality of agricultural production, increase incomes and foster a transparent, replicable governance process.

The aims of the project are to:

  • create productive opportunities for poor rural people by helping them overcome existing constraints such as lack of infrastructure and lack of access to financial services
  • expand institutional support beyond financial services to cover farmer organizations, marketing, agro-services, agro-industry and small-scale enterprises

The project emphasizes partnerships between farmers and entrepreneurs, development of market linkages and creation of off-farm income-generating activities. It takes an innovative approach, providing individual borrowers with small enterprise loans on the basis of community priorities.
