Small-scale Irrigation Schemes Rehabilitation Project

The project built on the achievements of the three preceding projects, continuing to support efforts to increase agricultural production and to improve the standards of living of poor rural people. The project focused on the development of small irrigation systems likely to bring about an increase in food crop production.

The main activities included:

  • rehabilitating irrigation infrastructure
  • strengthening local institutions
  • providing support services and encouraging the formation of farmers’ groups
  • improving farmers’ access to inputs
  • supporting the creation of a revolving fund for agricultural development
  • providing training and technical assistance
