Pilot Market Linkages Programme

The project worked to improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers in the target area by enhancing agricultural productivity, making the shift from subsistence to small-scale commercial farming and establishing linkages between farmers and seven agribusiness companies. Project activities included:

  • helping form and build the capacity of farmer producer groups and associations
  • introducing new high value crops and food security crops
  • providing access to credit for inputs

The project was able to increase yields by more than 250 per cent on all crops, and gradually increased the number of commodity associations and farmer groups, and the proportion of women participants.
