Food Security, Nutrition and Economic Status for People living with and affected by HIV/AIDS


The overall goal of the project was to improve the care, support, food security, nutrition and economic status of people infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS in Zvishavane and Shurugwi districts of Midlands province. Sixty per cent of the target group were women. Project activities included:

  • formation of 40 support groups to offer home-based care, support and information to people affected by the virus
  • promotion of cassava, sweet potato, pigeon pea, soybean and other vegetables to improve food security and incomes for households with affected members
  • introduce labour and time-saving irrigation technologies
  • promote processing of vegetables, medicinal herbs and spices
