Rehabilitation and Capacity Building at Tuli-Lushonkwe and Tuli-Makwe Irrigation Schemes Project
The project was designed to rehabilitate the Tuli Lushonkwe smallholder irrigation project in Gwanda district, Matabeleland South province. Gwanda district is one of the poorest districts in the country, with a high proportion of women left to run households alone while the men cross over into Botswana in search of work. The project rebuilt canals, cleared vegetation, provided farmers with relevant training and developed the governance structure of the scheme. In the second phase the project purchased equipment such as stock pumps and starter motors and constructed canals to extend the existing scheme.
